STORRS, Conn. - After an excellent showing at the Yale Invitational last week, the University of Connecticut men's track and field team will look to continue that momentum as it heads to New York City for the Great Dane Classic tomorrow beginning at 12:30pm. The Armory will play host to the meet at its New Balance Track and Field Center with the University of Albany as the host school.The Huskies posted six first-place finishes in their first meet of the season at Yale's Coxe Cage last weekend, including freshman pole vaulter Craig Hunter's first top-finish at the collegiate level. UConn's relay teams swept top finishes in all of the events, claiming first in the 4x400m, 4x800m, and owning the top four finishes in the Distance Medley Relay.Looking ahead to this weekend, Coach Greg Roy points out that a relatively youthful Husky team can take advantage of the chance to make an impact. "The Great Dane is our first scoring meet of the year. Looking at our lineup, it is striking how young and inexperienced we are. I guess graduating 18 seniors last year will do that to you! That being said, this is a tremendous opportunity for these young kids to step up and be counted."The young Connecticut squad will rely on senior leadership to guide the team this weekend. "With our youth, we will look towards Captains Cory Duggan and Eric Masington to lead at the Great Dane while fellow captain, Sam Smith will be competing at the Rhode Island Heptathlon Thursday and Friday," said Coach Roy. Masington earned first place in the shot put last week with a throw of 16.73m (54-10.75). Duggan cleared a height of 4.90m (16-00.75) to grab second place in the pole vault at the Yale Invite.UConn enters tomorrow's meet having found steady success at the Great Dane Classic. "We've won this meet for the last 3 Years," Coach Roy noted. "There is no better preparation for Conference Championships than winning."
